This false-color slope map, based on radar imagery, shows the steepness of the terrain in the south polar region of the moon. Using a map like this helps mission planners assess landing areas for human or robotic explorers. One potential target for a human landing, Shackleton Crater, is visible as a crater with a sharp purple edge near the right edge of the image. (NASA)
