I stopped going to integral gathering years and years ago (6? 7?) because, although the locations were often gorgeous.. there usually was an overwhelming amount of trance & psy trance etc being played + large presence of very young crowd, candy kids. So: is integral still a mainly trance + pre twenties event or has it come to welcome other types of electronic music (electro, tekhouse, breaks) as well as a more "adult" crowd (over 25 year old) ?

Re: trance , still ?
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 2:36 PMHardly. I went to the 12 year anniversary and was very disappointed. Very young {and high} crowd, twitching to something resembling the sound of a subway train takin' laps around NYC. Many suggestions to "play to the crowd" were met with cocky indignation. Did you hear about the owl? 4x4 kills wildlife!!
I don't think I'll be going to too many more Moontribes. -

Re: trance , still ?
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 5:30 PMwith all due respect, the 12 yr was not an integral gathering but a moontribe gathering. secondly, with all due respect, i know many of the people there- very young? hardly, most of the people i know are 25 and older. as for the music- roman played a sweet ass downtempo set, treavor played some rocking breaks and brian just plays the shit. and lessee- techno at night, petey played some kicking housey tribal shit in the evening... so i'm sorry you won't be going to any more moontribes. but, as with everything, what you want to see is what you will see. oh yeah- as for the "twitching"- maybe you don't dance and failed to see how many people were rocking out on the dancefloor... oh well, better luck next time. -

Re: trance , still ?
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 6:06 PMClearly the original poster of this thread has something to hide. She or he, is using a new tribe account and seems to be quite capable of maneuvering them selves around tribe, enough to write a thread. This person is not new to community in my opinion. I question why or what do you have to hide? I understand that you would like to hide you identity for the sake of criticism; leaving no paper trail. However I find it cowardly. Have fun hiding in the dark with you opinions. It seems to me that you may have some insecurity eschews to work out. Remember these are community of free speakers who share there opinions for the betterment of every one no matter how negative or positive the idea is. If you feel that upset about the gathering. Let yourself be know with words. But besides that party on, you will find your nich in the woods, don’t let one party that did not match your personality get you down. Up in the middle land of California there are many swami retreats that are very cool check them out. Remember “There are many markets to buy your eggs from.” -

Re: trance , still ?
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 5:56 PMPUMA, I think you must have took a wrong turn and ended up at a different party (and Soul of course is right, Integral is not yet on it's 12th year, your talking about Moontribe). The crowd at Moontribe is now atleast over 30 on average. I'm almost always one of the youngest people in any random sample from the party and I'm a ripe 25. -

Re: trance , still ?
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 6:08 PMAnd about the owl, what's the matter, never ate poultry before?
Seriously, it's sad, but the owl probably died more from the heat than the music. (a combination of course, but it WAS a record hot day, many animals die in extreme weather, especially the young.) Unless your going to become a Luddite ascetic you shouldn't critisize unintentional environmental impacts. Your use of a computer (not to mention cars, house, toilet, almost everything in post-industrial socciety) has probably contributed to the cause of more death, even human death, than us bringing a sound system out to the desert. People who think we should stop partying because of the death of one animal I think must have not given much thought to the impact of modern living in general.
Although, this is a tired subject, there are those who are going to pretend like they are signigicantly lessening thier environmental impact by not coming to parties, and those who don't. See ya. -

Re: trance , still ?
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 7:08 PMyea,
I don't care, to each his own.
All I know is when I go out to the desert I see some of my favorite people, and in my favorite environment, and often my favorite music (of course the music isn't always perfect, but I'm content.) -

Sun, October 2, 2005 - 10:02 PMSince when did we have to dis on the Candy Kids to gain some kind of fame?
is "dis" with 1 "s" or 2? -

Re: trance , still ?
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 10:36 PMSince 1998, + or - 8 years depending on how long the person you ask has be raving.
Pedants havn't recognized "dis(s)" as a word yet, so it depends on how people spell it most often and if it remains in use long enough for them to recognize it. If you keep on using it like you do then you'll be contributing to it's being a single 's'. Personally I think 2 's's make it look a little too much like "piss", so I'm all for one 's'. -

Re: trance , still ?
Sat, October 8, 2005 - 1:26 PMHA! Now that's funny about the trance question. I personally adore psytrance. And I love the Moontribe people. But my main complaint is about the music, which is certainly not psytrance oriented, I can assure you of that...

Well this may be delayed reaction but I only read the original thread when I first posted.
I love contributing my opinion in this forum but then I read things liek this and I just wounder to my self "why do I even bother sometimes?" you cant experience anything new if you show up expecting it to be something, thats a sure fire way to set yourself up for disapointment. Sorry you saw things that way PUMA but remember you create your own reality.

Re: trance , still ?
Tue, May 15, 2007 - 1:36 AMwow this the longest thread, spanning years, Set the way back machine too...
I just did sound (the very same owl killer sound system that I setup at that fateful 12 year moontribe) for an outdoor psytrance party this last weekend. And found my self enjoying it. It had been years since I'd been to a psytrance party and was pleasantly surprised. As for moontribe, I think most of us moontribers are far too old to keep up with a psytrance beat for any extended length of time, hehe joking kids.
My last integral had the most eclectic mix of musical styles, but that was a long time ago.
As for the owl, knowing that the placement of the speakers was of my doing and the four corner arrangement was also endorsed by me. It was Christian who tuned the system that weekend so it's his fault.
sincerely, Judas -

Re: trance , still ?
Mon, October 3, 2005 - 11:57 AMIntegral goes through a re-vamp every couple of years. I don't know about the music, but the crowd is probably older, because they are once again tied to environmental causes (tree plantings and such). Integral's selection of music has always been eclectic from downtempo, to all-night-trance, to classical (couple of funny stories there...). Basically, any DJ who will be showing up is welcomed to apply for spin time, and they usually let anyone interested take a crack at it. -

Re: trance , still ?
Mon, October 3, 2005 - 2:36 PMWhats wrong with psytrance? nothing if you ask me and psytrance has nothing to do with candy kids or teens your thinkin tiesto....each music has it's time and place at each party. If done right you get some good psy from about 4 am to 6 am or sometime around then and then come out of it with some funky brad tunes or some breaks...to be honest I miss those days at fmg seems now it's more house and breaks than before. I still love fmg becasue its full of a lot of good people with a lot of good things to say and who can complaine about being in the desert I just wish there was a little more musical variety. peace to all -

Re: trance , still ?
Mon, October 3, 2005 - 3:25 PMI find it funny that the original poster associated trance with candy kids. Are you associating just this event with Psy-Trance and candy kids or all trance events with candy kids?
I have been going to indoor and outdoor trance events for years and being into music as much as I have been (since I was around 4)- I have found that Psy-Trance (and especially GOA) is on a higher plateau of someone being mature. I don't want to stereotype certain genres with certain types of people on whether or not they're mature themselves... but, part me does do that. The reason is I see the majority of the people ARE much more maturer than those that go to "tekhouse, breaks" events. Tech-House and Breaks belong in a damn club and I see no spirituality when it comes to those genres. That's why it's hard for me TO stereotype and NOT TO stereotype others... because really I CAN'T. I can't tell if someone is experiencing something "spiritual" for them and the music their listening to.
But, here's a more simplified explanation:
I just know that I've seen 21 and 22 year-olds at "raves" or other events (i.e. tekhouse, breaks) and they're rolling on E and to me that has no spirituality between what is supposed to be between one's self and one's higher power. Yet- I see 15 or 18 year-olds go out to an outdoor gathering and when talking to them, I can tell that they're about 100% more mature than the older people at the other kind of parties. I have always spoke of this and I always will. In my humble belief... I do believe there are at least 2 different kinds of scenes (if not more) in electronic music: 1) The "Rave" scene and 2) The "Gathering" scene. I belong to the second one.
So, I may have said something that "appears" to be a contradiction-- but, not really. I just don't like the idea when someone says that trance events are for candy-kids, (or associates them with candy kids, etc.) because of the type of events I (myself) go to and the reasons WHY I go to the event (spiritual reasons- not just a party for me all the time). I don't expect anyone to believe (or follow) what I believe in... and that's okay by me (I'm alright with that). I just avoid bad company (bad vibey feelings) and I love really, REALLY good/nice people... people who respect others, their beliefs, their life, their struggles, their goals, etc. and I can see that a lot of people I've hung out with (and hang out with) are definitely that... IN the TRANCE scene (not the "clubby" trance scene). -

Re: trance , still ?
Mon, October 3, 2005 - 7:18 PMWoaou waou waou... and they call us French people aggressive!!!! listen folks, my question was just simple and to the point and no harm intended so pleeeeeassse, chill! I did not intend to start such a ... wicked thread .... I've been going to moontribe for years and years.... love it out there... have great amzaing wild fun. Beuatiful environment, very different from grey and cold Paris... I'm just not into trance at all (everyone has the right to a musical pref, right?) I was considering going back to Integral because I did go to some very fun parties wwwaaaay back. But, like many people, I work crazy schedules... and I just don't like to drive 3 , 4, or 5 hours to listen to psy trance all night.. or any trance..... or hard house.... even if the people are beautiful/ if the vibe is good/ if the harmony is everpresent / if its the kingdom of hugs etc etc etc... I'm a music and sound lover. I'll be the first one coming to hear Ben, Brian, Petey, Treavor, Brad and Roman... used t love it when Barry played... out there out there out there.... But damn ! and merde ! My request is completely normal = it is normal for some people to NOT like trance and to NOT like being surrounded by kids (Im 31 goddamit!!!!) , just as other people have rights to LOVE psytrance and being surrounded by day-glo teens sucking on baby-plastic-bottle-tits-thingee (how do you call it? pacify-ers or???) I was just asking a question, to decide if i would like it or not! -

Fri, October 7, 2005 - 12:05 AMjust to clarify I was only trying to add to the original thread with a question...I in no way intended for things to spin out of control. Thu, October 6, 2005 - 7:25 PMmay I ask you to share those funny stories involving classical music ? what kind of classical ? classical seems like a great idea at sungrowth... or is it just too obvious, hence laughter-cinching ? and eclectic how (polka, carpathian folk ?) seriously... how eclectic? I really want to hear the funny stories, please. I always thought classical was... serious. i'm intrigued, and would love to be amused / instructed !! -

Mon, October 3, 2005 - 8:02 PMOne party, one person's experience. Things change, scenes ebb and flow, the vibe moves. Try to pin it down and it slithers away. Cause and effect, the beat goes on. Are you going to produce something better? If so, we're all waiting...

Mon, October 3, 2005 - 7:29 PMand , really, i don't care if candy kids are not called that anymore, or how the different sub-branches of raving/ or partying, or outdoors indulging or whatever you call it have changed names and specifications of specifications and new this or that... i don't evencompletely understand the american terminology for anything not work (film) related anyway... but Im sure some people did understand what i meant..... actually, i know i made myself abundantly clear.. i'm so good at that (self-enamored sigh) ! and yes, 12 year rocked!!!!!!! Treavor, Ben and Roman made my day !!! (I'm not forgetting the others... i was just asleep otherwise) -

that way I can't be attacked for
